National Doctoral Programme in Materials Physics
The National Doctoral Programme in Materials Physics (NGSMP, formerly National Graduate School in Materials Physics) is a part of the graduate school (doctoral) system launched in Finland in 1995. The aim of the system is to coordinate and organize research training in the Finnish universities.
At present, the Doctoral Programme in Materials Physics has about 120 graduate students. Roughly 40 graduate students in the NGSMP obtain their funding through the Doctoral Programme. In addition to the direct funding of the individual research studies, the Doctoral Programme organizes graduate courses and workshops, invites international lecturers and supports financially conference participation of the doctoral programme students.
NGSMP is funded by the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Academy of Finland.
NGSMP is coordinated by chairman Prof. Risto Nieminen and coordinator Leena Porraskorpi from the Aalto University School of Science with local contact persons in the participating universities and projects.
